Description

Temporary Telephone is a site for misplaced words, images,
and connections both solid and static.
What happens when we invite others to respond to a book
through viewing only one page?
This exhibition is an experiment in that process. One artist was
tasked with locating an item in the collection that spoke to
them and then photocopying one page that was of particular
interest. The photocopy, sans title of book, was passed on to
the next artist. They were then tasked with choosing a book
from the Joan Flasch Artists’ Book Collection based on that
photocopy. This process cycled through a total of 11 artists until
the process was interrupted by manipulating the photocopies.
The final product, seen in the exhibition cases, is evidence
of a game of telephone but using a library catalog and then
sent through one more process of mechanical miscommunication
via the photocopier.
