Laura Davis (Faculty, Contemporary Practices) discusses her installation on view in Clutch Gallery "Your Eye is My Ear(lobe)"

It’s not everyday that you open your jewelry box filled with shoulder-length earrings from the 80s and find yourself in a temple of high culture. For her Clutch installation, Davis presents an art gallery of Modernist sculptures made from custom jewelry. A convex mirror on the back wall creates a scale shift that incorporates the viewer harmoniously into the exhibition space.

Laura Davis (b. 1971, Holland, Michigan) is a Chicago based artist working in sculpture, drawing and installation. Originally trained in enameling and metalsmithing, Davis is interested in the decorative arts as subject. Her work examines the intersection of craft, design and art by using display structures and context to disrupt notions of value.

Clutch Gallery is a 25-square-inch space in the heart of Meg Duguid's purse. The gallery is dedicated to exhibiting contemporary art of all media and travels to different exhibition spaces and collections.
Georgina Valverde, Founder and Director of The Society of Smallness, is currently in charge of Clutch’s curatorial program. In 2013, Clutch was in regular residence at the Joan Flasch Artists' Book Collection.
